I was watching a movie last night that portrayed the classic image of a writer alone at his keyboard, staring at a blank page, and trying to will some words into his fingers. If you look at my entries here on this blog, you might conjure up that image of me. But you would be wrong.

While it is true that I haven’t been writing, it isn’t from a lack of ideas and it isn’t as a result of me having spent hours in front of a keyboard willing my fingers to type. Instead I am in a period of inaction for creative writing.

This isn’t to be confused with a lack of creativity. I have been painting (on my new favorite media of a tablet) and woodworking and doing home projects. I have also been spending time with my kids who have become teenagers and I don’t want to miss this time of their lives.

My urge to write more is still there. Visiting this website and typing the first post here in months is evidence enough of that. I feel a story telling impulse building.
